44 Things I Gave Learned The Hard Way! Part 2

As promised here are the next 11 Lessons:

12. Few people ‘fail’ in ministry if they learn to say the four ‘magic’ words: ‘I need your help.

13. Hire a “world-class team of equippers as your staff, you cannot hire enough doers to  get the job done, the best people usually cost you the most money [never hire people to help them out; trust your gut in the hiring process].

14.Write a staff covenant and have everyone who joins the staff sign it with their blood.

15.Communicate to your staff that it is O.K. to fail, but it is not alright to  punch holes in the boat below the water line.

16. Lead your staff on an ongoing basis by getting them to write three  goals for each Quarter; no one can lead/manage a staff through annual goals.

17. Senior pastors need to understand the trends in business  leadership.

18. The most important team in the church is the pastor’s advisory team [or the staff-parish relations team]; select members with care; meet with this team monthly; gradually raise the candor level; and insist on absolute confidentiality.

19. Ministry is not finding needs and filling them; it is helping people to identify their spiritual gifts and deploying them.

20 Prayer Ministry should be an Important Priority.

21. Put your vision in concrete and your methods in sand.

22. The style of preaching that communicates today is Biblical, relevant, authentic, compassionate, and narrative; it is best delivered without notes.
